New Delhi [India], December 19 (ANI): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute on Monday to freedom fighters Veer Pandit Ramprasad Bismil, Thakur Roshan Singh and Ashfaq Ullah Khan, who were sentenced to death by the British government for their involvement in the Kakori conspiracy.
It is said that Thakur Roshan Singh did not participate in the Kakori train robbery but he was still sentenced to death by the British government for his involvement in a different case.
"We salute the joint martyrdom of the great revolutionaries and immortal martyrs--Martyr Pandit Ramprasad Bismil, Martyr Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Martyr Thakur Roshan Singh--and their unprecedented contribution towards the motherland," Kharge posted on X.
"Ganga-Jamuni culture is the foundation of our country and only by living together will we be able to face the biggest challenges. The blur of bigotry and communalism will have to be cleared and India will have to be united by keeping it united. This was the message of our revolutionaries," further read the post.
The Kakori Train Action or Kakori Conspiracy, was a train robbery that took place at Kakori, a village near Lucknow, on August 9, 1925, during the Indian Independence Movement against British colonial rule.
The main purpose of the robbery was to protest against the heavy tax that was collected from the Indians and use the money to fund the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) rather than leaving it with Britishers.
The robbery was organised by the Hindustan Republican Association and more than 40 people were arrested in this incident. They were finally sentenced to death by the British government and severe punishments were also given to those who helped with this incident. (ANI)
