Main admin of Whatsapp group sharing child porn arrested

New Delhi [India], Feb 22 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against the members of a WhatsApp group for allegedly uploading and circulating child pornography videos.

The agency arrested the group admin, Nikhil Verma, a resident of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, and registered a case against five other admins and 114 members of the group.

The CBI has been conducting searches at five places in Delhi, Noida, Kannauj and Maharashtra in relation to the matter.

Several mobile phones, tablets and laptops containing the alleged incriminating material depicting children in obscene, indecent and sexually explicit acts have been recovered during the search operation.

Publishing and transmitting obscene material related to children in electronic form is considered one of the most heinous crimes, which have led to various other offenses such as sex tourism and sexual abuse of the child.

According to the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Indian Penal Code, 1860, creation, transmission and even browsing child pornography is illegal in India. The offense attracts five years in jail and a fine of Rs 10 lakh. (ANI)
