Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Poonam Mahajan on Monday said that the 'Mahayuti' alliance will contest the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections together, reaffirming the party's commitment to public service over political speculation.
Speaking to ANI, Mahajan said, "I cannot answer that speculation right now. It is not important for us. What is essential for us is that 'Mahayuti' will fight together."
"How will we fight? You will come to know this, but whatever the BJP says, we will follow as workers... The BJP does not fight or work for elections. We always work for the people," she added.
In March, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray had expressed willingness to reconcile with his estranged cousin, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray, for the sake of the Marathi language and culture. His remarks came during an event organised by Bhartiya Kamgar Sena, the trade union wing of his party.
While addressing the function of his party's trade union wing, Bhartiya Kamgar Sena in Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray said that he is ready to get back together with Raj Thackeray by keeping all the issues aside for the sake of the Marathi language and culture. Uddhav's response came during a podcast with filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief said that he can keep aside minor differences with Uddhav and can work for the interest of Maharashtra.
Uddhav Thackeray said that he wants to keep aside all the meaningless fights and appealed to all the people of Maharashtra to come together for the sake of Marathi and Maharashtra.
"What I want to say is that I also appeal to all Marathi people to come together for the benefit of Maharashtra and Marathi", Uddhav Thackeray said.
Meanwhile, in April, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called upon party workers to gear up for the BMC polls. Addressing Shiv Sena office bearers at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Shinde said, "Take the work done by the government in Mumbai and the state over the last two and a half years to the people. Every ward should have a Shiv Sena branch, and every home should have a Shiv Sainik. We delivered one blow in the assembly elections, and now we need to deliver the second blow in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation."
He directed the members and office bearers to register 123 new names from each ward as party members and ensure that each ward has more than 10,000 registered members.
The BMC elections are expected to be held in October this year. (ANI)
