Maharastra: IMD issues orange alert in Mumbai, several parts of city waterlogged

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 12 (ANI): The Indian Meterological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.
There is a monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation has also developed over Mumbai, which has resulted in strong westerly winds, the Met Department said.
An orange alert is issued in cases of extremely bad weather. It affects transport facilities, including rail, road and air.
According to recent data released by IMD, the average rainfall recorded at 8 am in the Central Mumbai region was 93.16 mm, in the Eastern Suburbs it was 66.03 mm and in the Western Suburbs, it was 78.93 mm.

Amid heavy rains in the city, the King's Circle area of Mumbai has been waterlogged. Overnight continuous rainfall in several parts of the Navi Mumbai area has also left the place waterlogged.
In Central Mumbai, the maximum rainfall recorded from 7 am to 8 am was at the F/N Ward Office and Wadala Fire Station at 28 mm. At Worli Sea Face Municipality School, it was recorded at 27 mm; at Pratiksha Nagar Municipality School, Savitribai Municipality School and Rawli Camp, it was 26; at Sewree Koliwada Municipality School, it was at 25 mm; and at G/S Ward Office, it was 24 mm.
In the Eastern Suburbs, Shivaji Nagar Municipality School recorded the highest at 42 mm, followed by Mankhurd Fire Station at 36 mm. At Chembur Fire Station, it was recorded at 33 mm.

In the Western Suburbs, BKC Fire Station recorded the highest rainfall at 36 mm; at Nariyal Wadi Municipality School, it was 32; at Pali Chimbai Municipality School, Vile Parle Fire Station and Supari Tank Municipality School, it was 30.
The rain, however, hasn't affected the railway traffic, as it is running smoothly. But there was an update on the change in routes for the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) buses at Sion, where the buses on road number 24 and route numbers 10, 25, and 341 are diverted via Sion Circle.
The Palghar region of Maharastra has also been experiencing heavy rain since this morning, as the IMD issued an orange alert in the region in their nowcast warning.
The IMD said there will be heavy spells of rain at isolated places in Mumbai for the next three to four hours. "Intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during the next 3-4 hours, the IMD said.
The IMD has further issued a yellow alert in the Thane and Raigad regions in their nowcast warning today.
The city faced major waterlogging and traffic issues due to heavy rainfall a few days ago. The IMD earlier issued a yellow alert for today in Mumbai and Palghar regions and an orange alert for Thane and Raigad regions.
IMD had predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai until July 12. Heavy to moderate rainfall was also expected in Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal up to July 12.
