Pune (Maharashtra) [India], October 25 (ANI): A disturbing case of animal cruelty has come to light in Maharashtra's Pune district after a dog was beaten and hanged to death from a tree by its owners.
Police on Thursday booked a woman and her son under various sections in connection with the alleged crime that took place in the Pirangut area of Mulshi tehsil.
Padmini Stump, an animal activist who operates a shelter home for dogs, approached the Pune rural police with the complaint against the woman and her son.
Stump on Thursday said she had received a call from one Farheen Sheikh who said that she was contacted to take away the dog immediately.

Speaking to ANI, Stump said "I received a call from Farheen Sheikh that a dog had been hanged in the Pirangut area. A person had called her and told her that they wanted to get rid of the dog immediately. Later, they sent a photo and video of the dog and said that they didn't want the vehicle anymore because the owners, a mother and son, had hanged the dog to death."
Further, she said that the action could have killed the dog as they had moved into a new society and did not want to take their pet along or could have presumed that the dog had rabies after a veterinary doctor suggested they run a test for rabies on their dog.
"The accused had the dog for eight long years. The reasons for their action could be that they had moved into a society or it could also be that one of the doctors had suggested that the dog could have had rabies. Either could be their reasons for conducting such a gruesome act. The police has been very cooperative. We cannot believe that a pet lover could do something like this.
"The sad part is when we went to get the dog's body, it was lying in the field, and the owners had no regret or remorse over what they had done," Stump said.
An FIR under BNS Section 325 and other relevant sections under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been filed for further probe into the case.
"We are all animal lovers and when we received the information, we approached the cops and filed an FIR. After the FIR was filed, we brought the dog's body here and the postmortem showed that the dog was mercilessly beaten and then hanged," she said.
"I would like to request people that if you cannot handle pets , please don't adopt them. This is one of the worst cases I have seen," said the animal activist Stump. (ANI)
