Maharashtra CM urges farmers to plan agricultural activities in accordance with weather as rains likely to decrease from July 8

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 7 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Tuesday asked farmers to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the weather situation as a significant decrease in rainfall is expected in parts of the state from July 8.
While parts of Maharashtra faced heavy rainfall, the state's Agriculture Department urged the farmers in areas with less than satisfactory rainfall not to rush into sowing until sufficient moisture is created in the soil.
In a statement on X, the CMO stated, "Although there was heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Western Maharashtra at the beginning of July, rainfall across various parts of the state so far has been below average. Particularly, the amount of rainfall is low in Khandesh (Dhule and Nandurbar), Central Maharashtra (Ahilyanagar and Solapur), parts of Western Vidarbha, and some areas of Marathwada."
"A significant decrease in rainfall is expected in most parts of the state since July 8, and this situation is likely to persist for at least the next 10 days. During this period, rainfall below average is anticipated in various parts of the state. Additionally, an increase in maximum temperatures across the state cannot be ruled out. According to preliminary forecasts from the India Meteorological Department, rainfall in the second fortnight of July may be extremely low compared to the first fortnight," the statement added.
Appealing to farmers, the CMO said, "Farmers should plan their agricultural activities in accordance with this weather situation. The state's Agriculture Department is appealing to farmers in areas where satisfactory rainfall has not yet occurred not to rush into sowing until sufficient moisture is created in the soil."
Meanwhile, as per the India Meteorological Department, extremely heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, was recorded over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on Tuesday.
Nashik received very heavy rainfall today, and the administration issued a red alert. An unconstructed bridge has suffered damage.
District Collector Ayush Prasad said, "An unconstructed bridge has suffered some damage. I will visit there. Flooding has not happened in the Triambakeshwar Municipal area due to improvements in the gutter system. Before Kumbh next year, the gutter network will be completed. Urban planners will work on improvements at Sadhugram as well. 'Red' alert has already been issued for Triambakeshwar. Flat flooding is happening in a few areas, which will be cleared soon."
In a shocking incident in Mumbai, at around 7:00 am, the Control Room of the Forest Department received information that a crocodile was spotted underneath a vehicle in the parking area near Chandivali Darga Road, NITIE, Powai.
The Forest Department and members of a snake rescue organisation successfully rescued the crocodile.
After the rescue, the crocodile underwent a veterinary examination conducted by Forest Department veterinary officers. The medical examination certified that the crocodile was completely healthy and fit.
Subsequently, with the approval of senior forest officials, the crocodile was safely released into its natural habitat, away from human habitation, ensuring its safety and well-being.
Meanwhile, suffering from waterlogging, a local, Shadab, dressed as Spider-Man in Mumbai's Bhiwandi to help the public. He said, "I noticed that the Municipal authorities hadn't come here to address the issue of accumulated water. Inspired by how Spider-Man helps people and saves lives in the movies, I decided to do the same in real life, helping others and clearing away the stagnant water."
As per the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is predicted in Konkan and Goa till July 13 and Madhya Maharashtra on July 8, followed by scattered rainfall in the region till July 13. (ANI)
