Maharashtra: 55 held after clash broke out between two groups in Nandurbar

As many as fifty-five people have been detained in connection with an alleged stone-pelting incident that occurred during an Eid e Milad procession in Maharashtra's Nandurbar on September 19, officials said on Friday.

Nandurbar (Maharashtra) [India], September 20 (ANI): As many as fifty-five people have been detained in connection with an alleged stone-pelting incident that occurred during an Eid e Milad procession in Maharashtra's Nandurbar on September 19, officials said on Friday.
Nandurbar Superintendent of Police Shravan Dutt said that two groups clashed during an Eid e Milad procession in Maharashtra's Nandurbar yesterday.
"An incident occurred in Nandurbar city yesterday, a tense situation between two communities was built. There was a law and order situation, in that background, a case was registered at Nandurbar police station last night," Nandurbar SP said.
He further said that the people have apprehended 55 accused so far and we will produce them before the court.
"Attempts to murder, assault on public servants on duty, rioting and relevant sections of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act were invoked. We have apprehended 55 accused so far and we will produce them before the court. 54 accused are those who are absconding, we have formed different teams to arrest them. Besides these, through CCTV footage and mobile clips, all accused in this incident will be identified and named," he added.
"21 Police Havildars and Home Guard were injured, 2 Nagar Palika Havildars were also injured...Section 144 CrPC has not been imposed here," he added.
Earlier on Thursday, SP Shravan Dutt said the situation in Nandurbar was brought under control after the stone pelting incident.
"An incident of stone pelting occurred between two communities during the Eid-e-Milad procession in the city. There is a tense atmosphere in the city. The police immediately interfered in all such clashes that happened across the city. The situation is under control. People are urged to maintain peace and refrain from spreading rumours... the police have started detaining all those involved in the incident," he said.
He further said that strict action will be taken against the accused.
