Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 18 (ANI): A school teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a three-and-half-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's capital city Bhopal, a police officer said on Wednesday.
"A complaint was filed in the Kamla Nagar police station regarding sexual harassment with a 3.5-year-old girl. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under section 74 and 75 of Bharatiya Nyay Sahita (BNS) and POCSO act. The accused in the incident is the teacher of the school where the girl studies. He was identified and has been arrested by the police," Bhopal Commissioner of Police (CP), Harinarayanchari Mishra told ANI.
The school claimed they were not aware of the incident and they were also not informed about it by the parents.
CP Mishra said, "The family members complained about the matter to the police, the team investigated the matter and arrested the accused. Since the age of the victim is quite less, it took a bit of time to know the incident but as soon as the police received the complaint, it immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. The accused has been identified as Kasim Rehan."
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Jitu Patwari came down heavily on the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government saying it failed to maintain law and order in the state and urged the President of India to look into these incidents.
"Today, the President of India is coming to Madhya Pradesh. I have written a letter to the President regarding the safety of women. She expressed her concerns about the West Bengal case...Madhya Pradesh is such a state where 18 women are raped every day. Today, a case of a three-year-old girl raped in Bhopal came to light and incidents of rape in Madhya Pradesh are increasing. The Madhya Pradesh government has failed to maintain law and order in the state...I urge the President of India to look into these incidents. It is not a matter of political blame game but to be aware to protect the women," Patwari told ANI. (ANI)
