Madhya Pradesh: Police recover wads of banknotes from Bhopal house, counting on

Police recovered wads of currency notes from a residence at Pant Nagar in Bhopal, officials informed on Friday.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 10 (ANI): Police recovered wads of currency notes from a residence at Pant Nagar in Bhopal, officials informed on Friday.
According to officials, the accused house owner, who was identified as Kailash Khatri, claimed to be in the business of money exchange.
Sharing details of the cash recovery, DCP Bhopal Zone-1 Priyanka Shukla told ANI, "A large quantum of cash was recovered from the residence of a person, identified as 38-year-old Kailash Khatri. On being questioned, he claimed to be in the money exchange business for the last 18 years. He said as part of his work, he has to collect damaged currency notes in the denomination of Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 20, rake in his commission and provide new notes to his customers."
DCP Shukla added that the Income Tax Department has been informed of the cash seizure from Khatri's residence.
"Multiple wads of currency notes, both damaged notes and new ones, were recovered. The notes are still being counted. He has not provided any document stating that he authorised to exchange currency notes. So, action is still underway. The Income Tax Department has been informed of the recovery," DCP Shukla added.
"The IT Department takes cognisance of any cash recovery of more than Rs 10 lakh. The counting it still underway," she added.
The development came amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections and the recovery of cash from the house of the domestic help of a sitting Jharkhand minister's aide.
Meanwhile, repolling at four polling stations in the Multai Assembly constituency of Betul Lok was underway after a few EVMs were damaged in a fire accident earlier.
Polling for the Betul seat were held on May 7.
The Election Commission (EC) ordered repolling at four booths in the Betul Lok Sabha segment on May 10 after reports of damage to EVMs after the bus ferrying them, along with polling, officials caught fire on Tuesday night.
The repolling is being held at Rajapur, Kunda Raiyat, Chikhlimal and Dudar Raiyat of the Multai assembly segments of the constituency. (ANI)
