Madhya Pradesh: First FIR under new criminal law registered in Bhopal

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh's first FIR (First Information Report) under the new criminal law, which came into force from today, was registered in the state capital Bhopal, an official said.
The FIR was registered at Hanumanganj police station in the state capital at 12.16 am on Monday, said Jaideep Prasad, Additional Director General of Police (ADG, Law and Order).
"The first FIR in Madhya Pradesh was registered at Hanumanganj police station in Bhopal at 12.16 pm under section 296 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The second FIR in the state was registered at Nishatpura police station in Bhopal at 12:20 am, while the third FIR was also registered in the state capital at Shahjahanabad police station at 12:22 am. A total of 10 FIRs were registered across the state till 1:36 am on Monday. Eight of these were registered in the state capital Bhopal while one FIR was registered at Hajira police station in Gwalior at 12:24 am and another in Sagar district at 1:36 am," Prasad said.
Talking about the implementation of the three new criminal laws, the officer further said that it was a happy day that Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita (BSS), 2023 were implemented.
"Madhya Pradesh Police was making continuous efforts for the last six months to implement the laws which are based on justice not on punishment. From constables to top officials, everyone was trained for the implementation of the three new laws. Over 60,000 officers and employees, including over 31,000 investigation officers (IOs) were trained about the three laws. Especially the importance of technology has been increased in the new laws. From this point of view, the employees operating CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) in all the police stations in the state have been trained," ADG Prasad said.
Madhya Pradesh will remain among the leading states in the country in the implementation of new laws. After the law of the British era, now the new criminal laws have been implemented and electronic evidence is also included in the new laws. There is a separate provision for women and children in the new criminal laws and there will be prompt investigation and hearing in case of crime against women and children. Videography has now been made compulsory in cases related to women, the officer said, elaborating that now it is mandatory for the doctor to give a medical report within the time limit.
The three new criminal laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita (BSS), 2023 replaced the colonial era Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973 and Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
The three new criminal laws were passed by the Indian Parliament on December 21, 2023, which received Presidential assent on December 25, 2023 and were published in the official gazette on the same day.
The Ministry of Home Affairs notified in February that the three laws would come into force on July 1, 2024. (ANI)
