Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], Feb 13 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh here on Wednesday assured his personal intervention in the Ludhiana gang-rape case to "ensure speedy justice".
Speaking to the media, Amarinder Singh said: "I would approach the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek my personal intervention to ensure speedy justice in such cases."
A woman, aged around 20, was allegedly gang-raped by 10-11 men near Issewal village in Ludhiana. The incident took place on February 9 but came to the fore on February 10 when the victim informed the police.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister informed the Punjab Assembly that out of the six alleged persons involved in this heinous crime, three had already been arrested and the remaining would be nabbed soon.
Asserting there was absolutely no law and order problem in the state, Captain Amarinder challenged the opposition to a debate on the issue. "No major law and order problem had taken place in the state since his government took over," said Amarinder.
Responding to an issue raised by LIP MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains and AAP MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan over the recent Ludhiana gang-rape case, the chief minister assured the House that he would also request the Chief Justice to try all such cases in a fast track court on the day-to-day basis. "There is a need for the prompt dispensation of justice to the victims, besides exemplary punishment to the convicts in such dastardly acts as a deterrent for others," he stressed.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had constituted a three-member fact-finding team to inquire into an alleged gang rape of a college girl near Ludhiana. (ANI)
