LPG price reduction is insufficient, won't benefit poor: Asaduddin Owaisi

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], August 29 (ANI): Following the government's decision to reduce domestic LPG cylinder prices, AIMIM president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said that the reduction in the price of cylinders is insufficient.
"Prices of petrol and diesel are not decreasing. For the G20, around Rs 3,500- 4,000 crores are being spent. If that money was spent on gas cylinders, then cylinders would have cost just Rs 300. So this decision is not going to benefit the poor. The reduction is insufficient," Owaisi said.
Earlier in the day, the Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced a Rs 200 reduction in domestic cooking gas prices.
Effective Wednesday, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 across the country. In Delhi, for instance, the decision will bring down the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder from the existing Rs 1,103 per cylinder to Rs 903.
Speaking on Nuh Violence, Owaisi said that the majority of the homes and shops of the Muslims were broken as part of the collective punishment.
"The majority of the homes, shops, and even medical shops of the Muslims were broken as part of the collective punishment. Without following the proper directions of the Supreme Court, action was taken," he said.
Earlier, reacting to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) call to take out a procession in Haryana's Nuh, Owaisi claimed that targeted violence and collective punishment through demolition is being given to the Muslims.
Owaisi was responding to the violence that had broken out between two groups on July 31 in Haryana's Nuh district and claimed the lives of six people, including two Home Guards. (ANI)
