"Loss not just for Jharkhand, but entire country": Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Shibu Soren's Demise

New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Following the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) patriarch Shibu Soren, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday expressed condolences and said the loss is not limited to Jharkhand alone but is a moment of grief for the entire nation.
Speaking to ANI, Gogoi said, "We knew that he was not keeping well. My prayers are with Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and his family. This is a loss not just for Jharkhand but for the entire country. May his soul rest in peace."
Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai described Soren's demise as the end of an era and called him a towering figure of the tribal movement.
"This is very sad news. This is the end of the source of inspiration for the tribal movement, a tall leader and an era. On behalf of my party, I pay my humble tributes to him. May God provide strength to the CM (Hemant Soren) and his family to bear this sorrow," he told media reporters.
Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) National President Chandra Shekhar Azad also recalled Soren's long struggle for the creation of Jharkhand and called the moment "difficult," praying for strength to the bereaved family.
Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren, passed away after a prolonged illness at the age of 81 on Monday morning in New Delhi.
Jharkhand Chief Minister and his son Hemant Soren confirmed the demise of the leader in a post on X.
"Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today, I am devastated," Hemant Soren said.
According to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital, where the former Chief Minister was admitted, Shibu Soren was suffering from a kidney ailment. He had suffered a stroke one and a half months ago. He was on life support for the past month.
BJP leader Nishikant Dubey, expressing grief over the demise of the leader, said, "An era has ended, may God grant you and your entire family the strength to bear this sorrow. Respected Shibu Soren ji made a significant contribution to the growth of JMM."
Shibu Soren led the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for 38 years and is known as the founding patron of the party. He was the third Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Over a four-decade career in politics, Soren was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times and served as a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms. (ANI)
