Locals boycott MP by-polls over poor infrastructure

Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh) [India], November 9 (ANI): Irked over poor infrastructure in their areas, voters from two villages in Madhya Pradesh's Chitrakoot Assembly constituency boycotted the by-elections held on Thursday.

Locals from Berhana and Semara village in Chitrakoot boycotted the by-polls alleging that the authority doesn't provide them basic facility.

One of the locals shared their plight while talking to ANI.

"Barring schools, none of the facilities is being given to us. We decided to boycott by-elections because no one listens to us," said a local.

The villager further said that they would continue boycotting other elections if the authority doesn't pay heed to their problems.

The polling was held today for the Chitrakoot Assembly seat.

The by-elections were necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Prem Singh (65) after prolonged illness on May 29 this year. Singh was a three-time MLA from Chitrakoot, from where he had won in 1998, 2003 and 2013.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Shankar Dayal Tripathi, Congress nominee Nilanshu Chaturvedi and 10 others are in fray for the by-election in the Assembly segment.

There are 1.98 lakh voters in the Chitrakoot Assembly constituency, an EC official earlier said. (ANI)
