Sonipat (Haryana) [India], November 23 (ANI): Union Minister of State (MoS) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday praised Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla who accompanied him in Haryana's Sonipat during the inauguration of India's first Constitution Museum.
Speaking at the inaugural event hosted by OP Jindal Global University, the Union Minister highlighted the importance of the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity mentioned in the Indian Constitution.
"Liberty, Equality and Fraternity - these three are important words in the Constitution. But when the Constitution was being made, why did the Constitution makers give first preference to equality? When you read Articles 14 to 18, we will find that equality is mentioned first and after that there is liberty. During the French Revolution, Rousseau gave the slogan of 'liberty, equality and fraternity'. However, Babasaheb Ambedkar said that equality is more important for India. Ambedkar had said that if we remain equal, only then the democracy can survive," Union Minister Meghwal said.
The Union Minister further mentioned Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar who was a social reformer in Bengal, saying that he was a promoter of fraternity.
"Once Vidyasagar brought a person from the Valmiki caste who was unconscious and sick. But he was questioned by others saying that how can you as a Brahmin claim a person from the sweeper caste to be your brother? Vidyasagar told them that we have to promote brotherhood in the country. He said that this is precisely why he is my brother because he cleans the outside and I clean the inside (problematic thoughts). This is why we both are sweepers," Meghwal narrated, asserting that fraternity was also important.
Babasaheb managed to pilot everything, but failed to do so with Article 370, the Union Minister said, adding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was able to announce its abrogation. "For this, I would like to thank Om Birla. This government managed to remove Article 370 which even Babasaheb didn't like," Meghwal added.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla acknowledged the contribution of architects of the Indian Constitution during his address at the event. He said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who started the celebrations for Constitution Day on November 26 in the year 2015.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi floated the idea of celebrating Constitution Day on November 26 to remember the legacy, ideologies and contributions of those who made the Indian Constitution possible. We can say this now that globally the countries are adopting democratic ways. We are proud to say that in these 75 years of democracy, we managed to give the message of Vasudhev Kutumbhkam," Biral said. (ANI)
