LG approves creation of 3,247 additional posts for Delhi Jails

In a major move that would effect significant improvement in the management of Delhi Prisons, Delhi LG, VK Saxena has approved the creation of 3,247 additional posts in the Prison Department of GNCTD and directed that the same be filled within the next six months, said a press note from the LG Office.

New Delhi [India], September 5 (ANI): In a major move that would effect significant improvement in management of Delhi Prisons, Delhi LG, VK Saxena has approved the creation of 3,247 additional posts in the Prison Department of GNCTD and directed that the same be filled within the next six months, said a press note from the LG Office.
The LG has also approved the restructuring of Prison Cadre and instructed that timely promotion of the staff be ensured so that the staff is motivated.

The new posts to be created and filled include appointments in Group A, B, & C categories in different cadres like jail, technical, and ministerial in the prison department.
The posts created include those of Superintendent, Dy. Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Head Warder, Head Matron, Warder, Section Officer, Accounts Officer, Assistants and Drivers, etc. These will be deputed in various jails of the Delhi Prison Department--Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini.
The posts were created following due process, wherein the Prison Department first proposed the creation of posts by factoring in shortages as well as future requirements and got it vetted by the AR Department. Thereafter, financial implications for the same were ascertained and concurred to by the Finance Department, the press note said.
Following this, a meeting headed by Chief Secretary along with ACS (Home), ACS (AR), Pr. Secretary (Finance), Pr. Secretary (Planning) and DG (Prisons) was held on August 7, 2024, and the proposal to create these posts were moved for approval of the LG on August 21, 2024.
Thereafter, the LG approved the proposal with the additional direction that the posts be filled within six months.
Earlier on September 4, President Droupadi Murmu delegated powers to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena to constitute and appoint members to any authority, board, commission, or statutory body under any law enacted by the Parliament that is applicable to the national capital, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The gazette notification issued by the MHA on Tuesday said "In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution read with section 45D of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991 (1 of 1992), the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, exercise the powers of the President under clause (a) of section 45D of the said Act for constitution of any authority, board, commission or any statutory body by whatever name it may be called, or for appointment of any Government officer or ex officio member to such authority, board, commission or any statutory body.
