Laughable that DM gave excuse of Muharram, Dussehra: Cong. on Rahul's Amethi visit

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 3 (ANI): The Congress on Tuesday dubbed the Amethi District Magistrate's move to not allow Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visit his constituency as 'laughable'.

Speaking to ANI, Dwiijendra Tripathi said that the excuse given by the DM and the state government for refusing Rahul Gandhi's visit was laughable.

"Dussehra and Muharram have already gone. His trip was scheduled for the 4th. It is laughable that the DM gave the excuse of Muharram and Dussehra," he said.

He even went on to say that Rahul Gandhi's successful trip of Gujarat prompted the BJP to take such a step.

"Everything is being done on the order of the government. The way Rahul's Gujarat trip was a success has made the BJP feel scared,"

Another Congress leader Tom Vadakkan said, "It is one of the most undemocratic things one has heard. It is a huge challenge to the democratic system in the country."

He also expressed shock at the District Magistrate's decision to ask Rahul Gandhi to not visit the state.

"We were shocked that the DM asked an MP to keep away from Amethi. Such things don't work in politics. You can't keep an elected representative out from his constituency," he said.

The Amethi District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar on Sunday requested the Congress district president to reschedule the visit of their party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, in view of Muharram and Durga idol immersion.

The Amethi district administration, however, later said it was ready for his three-day tour beginning Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Amethi from October 4-6 . (ANI)
