Kargil (Ladakh) [India], June 3 (ANI): As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor (LG), BD Mishra (retd), took part in the Summer Carnival in Dras on Monday and praised the locals' support for the armed forces.

Speaking to the media here in Dras, LG Mishra said, "The army has always shown courage here. But, along with that, the support of the local people is praiseworthy. I want to congratulate the people for working shoulder-to-shoulder with the army."

The Summer Carnival was organised under the 'Operation Sadbhavana' initiative by the 'Forever in Operation Division' as part of the celebrations of the silver jubilee of the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The carnival was inaugurated on May 28 at Sando Rear Polo Ground, in Dras town, and hosted sports and cultural activities.

Visuals show students performing cultural dances as part of the celebrations. Sports activities such as polo and archery were also organised at the event here today.

Operation Sadbhavana, also known as Operation Goodwill, is a humanitarian initiative by the Indian Army to address the needs of people affected by terrorism in Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
The operation was launched in February 2023 and its objectives include national integration, women empowerment, employment generation, development activities towards nation-building, and neutralising anti-India propaganda sponsored by Pakistan in Kashmir.
LG BD Mishra is a former brigadier of the Indian Army and is the former Commander of the Counter Hijack Force of the National Security Guard (NSG), also known as the Black Cat Commandos.
After an illustrious career spanning more than 33 years, Mishra retired from the Army on July 31, 1995, and took over as the governor of Arunachal Pradesh on October 3, 2017.
The President of India appointed the 83-year-old Mishra as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh after accepting the resignation of Radha Krishnan Mathur on February 12.
Mishra was previously the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and is the second LG of Ladakh after Mathur, who served for three years, from 31 October 2019 to 11 February 2023. (ANI)
