K'taka floods: CM announces Rs 5 lakh per family in Kodagu

Kodagu (Karnataka) [India], August 18 (ANI): Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh per family who lost their houses in floods in Kodagu district.

Kodagu (Karnataka) [India], August 18 (ANI): Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh per family who lost their houses in floods in Kodagu district.
Addressing the media, Kumaraswamy said that the situation was under control and the Army has reached the flood-affected area for rescue operation. "The situation is under control, the district administration is taking proper care. Nearly 60 people are stuck in a village in Kodagu, and the Army has reached there. We are arranging helicopters but the weather is not allowing us to fly," said Kumaraswamy who visited the flood affected district for a review.
"I have done the aerial survey and there are major landslides at two-three places, (although) not much damage is done," he added. The Chief Minister also said that 2,500 people have been evacuated and settled in community halls.
Speaking on the casualties and damages, Kumaraswamy said, "Over 11,000 houses got damaged. Six people have lost their lives in Kodagu district. Many officials from other areas have been shifted to Kodagu. Officials have been asked to provide a list of damaged roads and start the work for repairs".
Incessant rains have lashed Karnataka since August 14, causing landslide and flooding in the state. On August 15, a high alert was issued in five districts namely Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga. (ANI)
