Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 17 (ANI): The Sealdah Court has approved the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) prayer for extending the police custody of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abhijit Mondol by three days.
During the hearing on Tuesday, the CBI lawyer stated that Ghosh and Mondol are subjected to further investigation regarding call recording, DVR, CCTV, and other data related to the case and that custodial interrogation was required in this case.
"They are subjected to further investigation regarding call recording, DVR CCTV, and other data. We want custodial interrogation. Things are in process. Custodial interrogation is required regarding data," the CBI lawyer said.
He further said that both of them were not at all cooperating during interrogation and further prayed for three days of CBI custody.
Before the start of the hearing of this case, the Sealdah Bar advocates requested the judge not to grant bail to Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondol.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court said that it was disturbed by reading the report given by the CBI in the RG Kar Medical College incident.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and also comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said that they are also disturbed by what they have read in the status report.
The Supreme Court was hearing a suo motu petition on the rape and murder of a doctor in the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.
The court also said that they are concerned about what the CBI has flagged for them. The court remark came when a lawyer raised issues like discrepancies in the seizure list, among others.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government removed the Kolkata Commissioner of the Police, Vineet Goyal, and top officials at the Department of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday, adhering to the demands put forward by the protesting junior doctors after their meeting with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee on Monday.
Junior Doctors are still protesting over the rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital near the Swasthya Bhawan today. (ANI)
