Kochi orphans complain of abuse

Ponnurunni (Kochi) [India], Feb. 12 (ANI): A case was registered by Kochi Police on Monday on the basis of complaints filed by 20 children who recently went missing from a convent-run orphanage.

Children of the CKC Convent orphanage at Ponnurunni said in their complaints that they are being physically abused and starved by the management of the institution.

They said that they had managed to escape from the orphanage and register a complaint with the police on Monday.

Sub Inspector Vijaysankar of the Kadavanthara Janamaithri police station said, "We intervened and made them return to the convent. Upon statements given by them, a case has been registered under Juvenile Justice Act."

The police further informed the Child Welfare Committee and the children are now in the latter's custody.
