New Delhi [India], March 27 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday fired back at BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi's demand to shut down meat shops in Delhi during Navratri.
He also questioned why KFC shops and restaurants owned by BJP leaders remain open during Navratri. Singh challenged the BJP to close these establishments if they truly cared about Hindu sentiments.
Singh further emphasised the double standards of the BJP by asking why liquor shops are allowed to operate during Navratri, despite alcohol consumption being against Hindu traditions. He demanded that liquor shops be closed throughout the festival period.
"KFC shops and BJP leaders' restaurants are open; try closing them if they have guts. Why are liquor shops open during Navratri? Close liquor shops throughout Navratri," said Singh.
Singh pointed out the hypocrisy of the BJP's stance, highlighting that meat and fish are cooked in embassies and guest houses from various countries in Delhi.
"Here there are Embassies of various countries, there, meat and fish are cooked. There are so many guest houses in Delhi from various countries, even there also meat is cooked," said the AAP leader.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht supported BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi's call to close the meat shops during Navratri.
He stated, "I am against the sale of meat, eggs, fish, or alcohol during Navratri. Meat shops should be closed as a sign of brotherhood during Navratri."
Expressing his full support, Singh stated, "I 100 per cent agree. I myself have said that meat shops should be closed during Navratri. This is the country of Sanatan, and it should run accordingly."
On Tuesday, Negi had urged meat shops near temples to remain closed on Tuesday and during the Navratri.
He said that he was upset to see a meat shop open in front of a temple and requested the shopkeepers to close on Tuesdays, which they agreed to.
Speaking to ANI, Negi said, "A few days ago, when I went to the temple on Tuesday, I saw that a meat shop was open right in front of the temple. I felt very bad seeing this, so I requested the traders to close the shops outside the temples on Tuesday. They readily accepted, and now shops have started closing on Tuesday in Patparganj." (ANI)
