Kerala Floods: Rahul urges Centre to lend more support

Kochi (Kerala) [India], Aug 29 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government to disburse sufficient funds for flood-ravaged Kerala to expedite the restoration work.

Kochi (Kerala) [India], Aug 29 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government to disburse sufficient funds for flood-ravaged Kerala to expedite the restoration work.
Gandhi said that he is unhappy over the amount of funds allocated to the state.
While addressing the media, the Gandhi scion said, "I would have liked if the Central Government would have extended more support to the people of Kerala. I think getting more aid is their (Kerala flood victims) right and I am sad that the government has not given as much as they should have given."
The Congress president who visited the victims housed in various relief camps on Tuesday also urged the state government to speed up the process of releasing compensation of Rs 10,000 to each victim.
"I have visited a large number of camps yesterday, people are worried. I spoke to Kerela Chief Minister too. It is important that the government gives a sense to the people that they are going to help rebuild the houses. Compensation promised should be delivered quickly," he said.
Rahul also assured the people of Kerala that his party will work day and night to rebuild their houses which got destroyed due to heavy downpour in the state.
"I ensure that Congress party is working for them (victims) and I have clearly instructed the party workers that they should help in the construction process. Because we are not in power we have a certain restrictions but whatever we can, we will do."
The worst deluge of the century has killed at least 357 people in Kerala, and rendered over 3,00,000 homeless. (ANI)
