Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], April 10 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan extended greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday and wished the festival would strengthen brotherhood and compassion among the people.
In a video message posted on X, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, "Eid al-Fitr celebrates perseverance and endurance, uniting people from all walks of life. As regressive forces are spreading communal hatred to create polarisation, let's embrace the spirit of compassion and harmony and join the festivities. Eid Mubarak to all."
Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh on Wednesday, while the rest of the country will celebrate on April 11.
Muslims in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday morning, marking the conclusion of the month-long Ramzan fasting.
The festivities begin by watching the new moon-- this signifies the end of the holy month of 'Ramzan'. People thank 'Allah' for blessing them and giving them strength to observe the fast throughout the month by offering 'Namaz'.
On this day, Muslims dress-up in festive attires and greet each other by exchanging gifts.
Some traditional dishes made on this day include biryani, kebabs, sheer-korma, kheer, kesar phirni, filled cookies, baklava, among other delicious items.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the month-long Ramzan fasting and the beginning of Shawwal, which is the tenth month per the Islamic calendar. Since the observance of the moon is essential for ending Ramzan month and celebrating Eid, it is celebrated in different parts on different days, usually with a one-day difference. (ANI)
