New Delhi [India], October 18 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived at Communist Party of India (Marxist) party headquarters to attend the meeting of CPI(M) Polit Bureau in Delhi.
After the sudden demise of the CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury earlier this month, the party will now function through the collective leadership of the existing politburo with Yechury's predecessor Prakash Karat acting as the "politburo coordinator."
The next permanent General Secretary will be selected at the next party congress scheduled to be held at Madurai in Tamil Nadu in April next year.
A decision to function through collective leadership of the existing politburo was made at the party's politburo meeting earlier.
The party's central committee cleared that proposal and also selected Karat as the "politburo coordinator" during the interim period till the next party congress.
Yechury, who was CPI-M general secretary, passed away at AIIMS Delhi earlier this month after suffering from a respiratory tract infection.
Earlier, the CPI(M) has decided to conduct a week-long campaign in each state within the period from October 15 to November 15 against 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, price rise, reduction in the retail prices of petrol and diesel, unemployment, privatization of basic services, steps to curb crimes against women and sexual assaults on girl children.
"The Central Committee of CPI(M) met in New Delhi on 29-30 September and decided to conduct a campaign against 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, price rise, reduction in the retail prices of petrol and diesel, unemployment, privatization of basic services, steps to curb crimes against women and sexual assaults on girl children.
