Kannur (Kerala) [India], June 18 (ANI): An elderly man was killed in a steel bomb explosion in the Thalassery region of the Kannur district of Kerala on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as 85-year-old Velayudhan who was a local resident of the district.
According to the Thalassery Station House officer, Velayudhan misunderstood the bomb as a container and took it with him. The explosion occurred when he attempted to open it on the cement steps on his home's veranda, causing the explosion.
The explosion caused cement to scatter, and both Velayudhan's hands were shattered. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to preliminary assessments by the Kannur police, the cause of the explosion was a steel bomb. Both of Velayudhan's hands were blown apart in the blast.
Police suspect the bomb was either stored or abandoned in the plot and are conducting further investigations.
A team led by City Police Commissioner of Thalassery, Ajith Kumar, including police and bomb squad personnel, conducted a thorough search of the area to check for additional explosives.
The investigation is being carried out and more details are awaited. (ANI)
