Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], August 1 (ANI): 14 FIRs have been registered across Kerala against individuals campaigning against donations to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) in response to the Wayanad landslide disaster.
The state police have identified 194 posts on social media that were spreading misinformation and have issued legal notices to social media platforms for their removal.
The breakdown of FIRs is as follows: four in Thiruvananthapuram City, two each in Ernakulam City and Palakkad, and one each in Kollam City, Ernakulam Rural, Thrissur City, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Thiruvananthapuram Rural.
To combat the spread of false information, cyber police have increased their patrolling on social media. The authorities have warned that legal actions will be taken against individuals who create and share misleading posts about the CMDRF.
The Kerala police are urging the public to refrain from engaging in or disseminating such activities and to support genuine relief efforts for the affected people in Wayanad.
Two massive landslides struck Mundakkai and Churalmala in Wayanad in the early hours of July 30, causing extensive destruction, loss of lives, and injury to hundreds, as per the Kerala Revenue Department. The death toll in the tragedy has crossed 200 and many are still missing. (ANI)
