New Delhi [India], February 3 (ANI): Congress leader Ajay Maken ahead of Delhi assembly elections said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was not releasing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report because there are things in the report against him, further stating that the person who come to power Lokpal and bring an end to corruption in Delhi was sitting on the CAG report.
Speaking to ANI, Maken said that if the CAG report had been released in December, then a special session could have been called to make the report public.
"Kejriwal has not let out the CAG report because there are things in them against him. The CAG reports had come in December...Kejriwal had said that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) had told them pretty late about it, but what we are saying that it does not matter if it was late or early. If it had been said that it was released in December or even in November, then a special session could have been called and the report should have been made public in that session... The same person who came to bring power to the Lokpal and to end corruption in Delhi is sitting on the report..." Maken said speaking to ANI.
Further, he said that the CAG report mentioned that a scam worth Rs 382 crore had been done in the hospitals. He further added that the hospitals of Delhi were in bad condition with almost 70 per cent vacancies of doctors.
"Scams worth Rs 382 crore have been done in the hospitals alone. Hospitals are in a bad state here. There are X-ray machines in the hospitals which are not working. There are ultrasound machines and CT scan machines but are only working up to 10 or 20 per cent. There are around 70 per cent vacancies for the post of doctors. We even have vacancies for technical staff. Hospitals and 'mohalla clinics' are not working and there are no medicines..." the Congress leader said.
Further, he said that the AAP had no right to sit on the CAG reports and were only misleading people.
"When all these things are there in the CAG reports and if they have come to power in the name of removing corruption, then they (AAP) have no right to sit on it... they are trying to mislead people..." he further stated.
When questioned on how Congress was receiving funds for Delhi polls considering they were only elected in three states, Maken said that the party's workers gave them money.
Maken also mocked the BJP government and said that even though the party had spent six times more the amount in the Lok Sabha elections as compared to Congress, they did not win six times the seats.
He also stated that AAP was using the government's money for their advertisements and did not spend their own money.
"Our workers give money to us and we fight with less expenditure. BJP spent seven times more money than us in Lok Sabha elections but they did not get six or seven times more seats than us. If we got 100 seats, they got nearly 240... They (BJP) spend more money on their advertisements. AAP is using government money for advertisements, their party is not spending money..."
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats in the national capital.
The Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced major setbacks in the last two assembly elections, failing to win any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of 70, while the BJP won only three and eight seats in these elections. (ANI)
