Karnataka building collapse: 2 dead, rescue operations continue on 'war footing'

Dharwad (Karnataka) [India], Mar 19 (ANI): Two people have died and at least seven are still trapped under debris after an under construction building collapsed here on Tuesday, officials said.

Dharwad (Karnataka) [India], Mar 19 (ANI): Two people have died and at least seven are still trapped under debris after an under construction building collapsed here on Tuesday, officials said.  
The building collapse occurred in Dharwad's Kumareshwar Nagar and a total of 28 people have been rescued so far. The injured, some of them critical have been hospitalised and are receiving treatment, Deepa Cholan, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad said.
"Two people are dead and 28 people are rescued and receiving treatment at Civil Hospital. NDRF and SDRF team have reached the site of building collapse. Oxygen and water is being given to 7 people buried in debris." She also said that rescue the operation will continue at night.
Chief Minister Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said rescue efforts will be conducted on war footing and urged the local people to not panic.
"The rescue work is on a war footing. About 25 people have been rescued and three persons are seriously injured. The injured are being treated. I request the local public not to panic and all those feared trapped in the building will be rescued ASAP" the CM posted on his official twitter handle.
Early reports indicated that over 40 people were trapped after the under construction building collapsed.
DG of Police in Karnataka State and Chief of Fire and Emergency Services, M.N.Reddi said, "In all 28 persons rescued so far.  Two persons have unfortunately lost their lives. Rescue ops continue."
Soon after the incident, in which over Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that he had given instructions to the Chief Secretary to supervise the rescue operations.
The Chief Minister posted on Twitter: "Shocked to learn about the collapse of an under-construction building in Dharwad. I've instructed the Chief Secretary to supervise rescue operations. I have also directed the CS to send additional resources and expert rescuers by a special flight to Dharwad." (ANI)
