"Justice will be served in Indore tourist murder case": Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma

Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], June 5 (ANI): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday assured that justice would be served in the case of the Indore tourist who was murdered in Sohra, while rescue operations continue to locate his missing wife. He did not comment on calls for a CBI investigation, saying the inquiry is ongoing and thorough.
Speaking to media persons, Sangma said, "Justice will be served in the tragic case of the Indore tourist who was murdered in Sohra, and our rescue operations to locate his wife are ongoing."
"This incident has come as a shock to us, as something like this has never happened in Meghalaya. While the demand for a CBI probe has been raised, the investigation is currently underway, and the Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, " said CM Sangma.
On Wednesday, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed after the Meghalaya Police recovered the weapon in the suspected murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist from Madhya Pradesh who had gone missing along with his wife Sonam, an official said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills Vivek Syiem stated that the police had registered a case and seized a phone. He added that the postmortem of Raghuvanshi's body had been conducted on Tuesday.
"The postmortem of the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was done. The case was registered, and a special investigation team was formed, headed by the SP city. We recovered and seized the phone and the weapon (used in the crime)," SP Syiem told ANI.
When asked about the whereabouts of Raghuvanshi's wife, Sonam, he said, "We have not found the body yet."
A newlywed couple from Indore, who went missing in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, on May 23, met with a tragic end as the body of the husband was found in a ditch while the search operation for the woman continued, a police officer had said earlier.
The couple had tied the knot on May 11 and left for a Shillong trip from Indore on May 20. The family had their last conversation with the couple on the afternoon of May 23, and their phone was switched off by the evening of the same day, according to a family member.
After receiving information about their disappearance, the police began the search for the couple, but unfortunately, the body of the man was found on Monday afternoon, while the search for the woman continued.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Crime Branch) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi told ANI, "We had spoken with Vipin Raghuvanshi, brother of the missing man, and he clarified that a dead body was found, and it was his brother Raja Raghuvanshi. The body was identified as Raja Raghuvanshi, and there was no information about the woman yet (wife of Raja Raghuvanshi). The search operation continued, and an NDRF team was also searching. It was difficult to say anything about her until we received any clues."
"The whole incident was 10 days old (the couple had gone missing on May 23), and it was not clear how old the body was (referring to time of death). This would be ascertained after the postmortem report. The body was recovered from a ditch, nearly 25 kilometres away from the place where their two-wheeler had been parked. Only one body was identified so far, and the search for the woman was still ongoing," he added.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya expressed grief over the incident and said that a search operation was underway to find the woman, praying she would be found safe and sound. (ANI)
