"Justice has been done": Congress MP Manish Tewari on SC's Rahul Gandhi's verdict

New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): Congress MP Manish Tewari on Saturday said that justice has been done and he hopes to see Rahul Gandhi back in Parliament after the Supreme Court verdict stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case. 
"Justice has been done and I do hope that we see him back in Parliament on Monday," Congress MP told ANI. 
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case over the 'Modi surname' remark while saying that person in public life is expected to exercise caution while making public speeches.
After his conviction in the case, Gandhi was declared disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad on March 24 following notification of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
Congress leader was sentenced to two years in jail on March 23 under sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in a case filed by Purnesh Modi.
At a rally in Karnataka's Kolar in April 2019, Rahul Gandhi, in a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said, "How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?"
Meanwhile, when asked about the discussion in Parliament on the Manipur issue, Manish Tewari said that "We have been asking that No Confidence Motion should be taken up at the earliest." 
"We do hope that the No Confidence gets taken up at the earliest because what is happening in the Parliament is against Parliamentary propriety," Tewari added. 
Opposition parties belonging to I.N.D.I.A have been protesting over their demand since the start of the monsoon session of Parliament for a detailed debate on the Manipur situation and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Parliament has been facing a similar logjam since July 20, the day when the Monsoon Session started, over the Manipur violence issue. (ANI)
