New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): BJP national president JP Nadda paid tribute to late party veteran Sushil Kumar Modi at 'Smriti Sabha' organised in memory of the latter in Delhi on Monday.
While addressing the occasion, Nadda recalled the period when the Emergency was removed and how Sushil Kumar Modi chose a 'student life' when every other young leader then aspired to be a legislator emphasising the late leader's 'commitment to the cause.'
"When the emergency was removed in 1977, every young leader was either becoming an MLA or MP, but Sushil Ji was above all of this. He said that he wanted to work in student life and he did that for a very long time. This was his commitment to the cause," Nadda said.
"He did a lot of study. He could call him a walking 'reference book' in any subject. He left us untimely. This was not his time to go," he added.
Sushil Modi passed away at Delhi's All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on May 13 after battling cancer for seven months. He was 72.
On April 3, this year, Sushil Modi revealed he was suffering from cancer and requested the BJP to relieve him of assignments related to the Lok Sabha elections.
Over his three-decade-long political career, Modi played a pivotal role in shaping Bihar's political environment. Sushil Modi held various positions in his three-decade-long political career. He served as an MLA, MLC and member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
He was elected as an MLA for the first time in 1990 from the Patna Central constituency, where he defeated sitting Congress legislator Akil Haider. He also served as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly from 1996 to 2004.
