JNU: Scuffle breaks out between students during seminar on Article 370

Speaking about Article 105 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech in Parliament, the Speaker said that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it is regulated by the rules and traditions of the House.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said on Wednesday that India is committed to the welfare of its neighbours, while steadfast on zero-tolerance towards terrorism. The response from the student community was overwhelming. A total of 2409 students cast their votes in the referendum. 2181 students (90.54%) voted against the continuation of the Vice Chancellor in JNU. 207 students (8.59%) voted in favour of her continuation. 21 votes (0.87%) were declared invalid.

Devarayalu lauded Om Birla and noted that several major bills were passed in his leadership of the House as Speaker, including the Women's Reservation Bill, abrogation of Article 370 and the Triple Talaq Bill

"We shall bring an impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner as per Article 324 of the Constitution. We have many, many complaints about him," Roy said.

Sharing a newspaper article on X, Ramesh alleged that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had rushed through legislation in Parliament to replace the previous rural employment scheme without adequate consultations.

BJP MP Sujeet Kumar, while speaking to ANI, said, "Article 94 of the Constitution gives members the right to move a motion to remove the Speaker. But the question is, why has the opposition brought this motion at this time? Is it because the Speaker has done something wrong?

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, JNUTA questioned the Ministry and the Central Government's position over the VC's remarks and the detention of the university students protesting against it.

Speaking to ANI, Anwar said, "The article by Sonia ji is right. It is a well-written and balanced article. What she said was that the stand that India used to take over such matters cannot be seen now, and it seems that we are running away from speaking the truth."

Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan on Tuesday questioned Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's article on the Iran-Israel conflict, asking why India should comment on the issue.
