JNU entrance postponed to May '19

New Delhi (India), Dec 7 (ANI): The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to hold its first ever computer-based entrance examination for the academic session 2019-20 in May next year instead of December this year.
The computer-based test would be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JNU claimed that it is the first Central University to be collaborating with NTA to conduct its national-level entrance examination across the country.
The administration further said that the decision was taken in the 148th Academic Council, meeting held on Friday, keeping in view the difficulties of students to write the examination in December.
According to the administration, the Academic Council overwhelmingly welcomed this move and approved it. National Testing Agency (NTA) is a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organisation that conducts entrance examinations for admission or fellowship in higher educational institutions.
"We have also decided to double the number of examination centres as compared to previous year so as to make our entrance examination accessible to the applicants even in remote areas," said Pramod Kumar, Registrar, JNU.
In a press release, the administration informed that "Mock test" centres will also be introduced so that the prospective applicants can practice and become familiar with the computer-based entrance examinations well before the scheduled dates of the examinations.
JNU is going to offer nearly 1080 seats for Master in Philosophy (M. Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) seats in 2019-20 admissions.
"Earlier the examination was done in the month of May only but after the Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar came he got it shifted to December. They have miserably failed in their process to get the examination done in December which was their decision only," said N. Sai Balaji, President, JNU Students' Union (JNUSU).
He said that students across the country are not comfortable with the Entrance Examination in December but it was the present Vice-Chancellor who got it shifted to December. He also called the online computer-based entrance 'a massive scam'.(ANI)
