Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren mourns death of aspirant during excise constable recruitment drive

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences on Monday over the deaths of 11 aspirants during the physical tests for the recruitment of excise constables. He directed an immediate review of the rules set by the previous government and instructed changes for future recruitment drives.

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], Spetember 2 (ANI): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences on Monday over the deaths of 11 aspirants during the physical tests for the recruitment of excise constables. He directed an immediate review of the rules set by the previous government and instructed changes for future recruitment drives.
Taking to the social media platform X he said "Johar friends, the untimely death of the participants during the race for the recruitment of excise constable is sad and heartbreaking. While directing for immediate review of the rules made by the previous government".
He also instructed to make changes in the rules for all future recruitment drives.
"We have instructed to make changes in the rules for all future restorations of this type, along with this, instructions have also been given to make a proposal for providing immediate relief from the government to the unfortunate victim and the bereaved family in this process" the Jharkhand Chief Minister said.
He also announced the postponement of the recruitment process for three days and instructed that races will not be held after 9 am, as well as, medical arrangements for candidates needing health check-ups and breakfast and fruits to be provided to participants.
"As a precautionary measure, we have instructed to postpone this recruitment process for the next 3 days. The race will not be organized after 9 am in any case. There will be adequate arrangements of doctors for those candidates who feel the need for a health check-up before the race and there will be arrangements for breakfast/fruits for the participants at all the competition venues so that no one participates in the race on an empty stomach" Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren said.
"After all, what are the reasons behind relatively healthy/fit people of our village-society getting injured in the physical test which is being conducted since long? After all, what changes have taken place in the health of the general public in the last 3-4 years in the country including Jharkhand? To review the reasons for the untimely death of these youth, so that such accidents do not happen in future, we have constituted a committee of health experts and have also directed them to give a consultation report" he added.
Notably, 11 aspirants died while undertaking physical tests during the drive to recruit excise constables, Jharkhand Police IG Operations Amol Vinukant Homkar informed.
Earlier on Sunday, Opposition BJP held protest against the state government over the deaths of some candidates in the Excise constable recruitment drive.
BJP Condemmned this incident and stated that the state government is resposible for the deaths.
"Many candidates have lost their lives during physical tests of police recruitment drive. In our country never before have so many people died during the recruitment...BJP condemns this incident. The state government is responsible for these deaths...We will file an application in the National Human Rights Commission demanding an enquiry into the incident. Compensation of at least Rs 50 lakh should be given to the families of the bereaved...", Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said. (ANI)
