Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], Feb 12 (ANI): Jharkhand government on Tuesday banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) in the state for its anti-national, communal and unconstitutional activities.  The PFI has been banned under Section 16 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1908.
The notification, released by the Jharkhand's department of Home, Jail and Disaster Management stated that the PFI indulge in activities that are dangerous to the security of the state and the country, including disrupting its peace and secular structure.
It further said that according to the evidence presented by Jharkhand police, it seems that PFI is anti-national, unconstitutional, illegal, communal, and indulged fully in spreading social disaffection.
The state government cited four reasons to ban PFI: disrupting law and order and peace, encourage communalism and extremism, indulge in anti-national activities and relations with other terrorist organization.
As per the notification, PFI is active in states of Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar. It also has reported that the PFI has relations with several extremist organisations like the ISIS and JMB.
The Jharkhand government also provided the list of criminal cases against PFI in the notification.
In 2018, the Bhartiya Janta Party government in Jharkhand imposed on PFI which was later quashed by the court. The court observed that the government did not follow the procedures to ban the organisation. (ANI)
