Jewellery theft worth Rs 60 lakh cracked, 1 held

New Delhi [India] February 20 (ANI): A sensational case of jewellery theft of worth Rs 60 lakh in Ala Hazrat Express by a local gang has been cracked by the Delhi police, wherein one person has been arrested.

On February 13, a theft of diamond jewellery and ruby was reported at the police station under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mridul Kotrilwal, the complainant who is a resident of Kolkata, stated that on February 13, he, along with his father, mother and wife, was travelling from Rampur to Delhi in an AC-2 tier of Ali Hazarat Express.

According to Kotriwal, when the train crossed Ghaziabad station and was heading towards Delhi, one person came to their compartment and started having a conversation with them.

As the station was approaching, that person suggested placing their luggage near the door for their convenience.

The complainant followed the suggestions of that person and that person started helping them with their luggage.

It was during this time that three to four people came there and started creating a commotion.

This diverted their attention when the train arrived at Old Delhi Railway Station.

When they reached their home in South Delhi, they found that the chain of their luggage bag was intact but it was torn from the inner lining and their jewellery worth Rs 60 lakh and cash worth Rs 90 thousand kept in the bag were missing.

The complainant suspected that the theft was committed when the commotion was being created in the train.

One person from the group was arrested with complete stolen jewellery worth Rs 60 lakh in a joint operation of a team of two police stations.

Reportedly, the recovery of stolen jewellery is the biggest till date by the railway police.

During an interrogation, it was revealed that the group travelled in trains which covered a long distance and targetted passengers travelling in 1st and 2nd AC coaches.

They used to identify the passengers travelling with family and heavy baggage and become friends with them, gaining their confidence.In the meantime, the other members of the group used to divert the attention of the passengers by creating some commotion, during which one of them stole the belongings.
