Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 15 (ANI): A voter awareness program under Systematic Voter's Awareness and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) was organized at Pratap Park in Srinagar on Sunday.
Sapna Kotwal, media nodal officer SVEEP, told ANI that the purpose of the program is to make the people aware of the importance of voting and give them necessary information regarding voting.
"These SVEEP programmes are being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir by district election officers. These activities are conducted according to the guidelines of the Election Commission," Sapna Kotwal told ANI.
Kotwal said that if any voter faces problems regarding voting, they can call in 950 toll-free number.
Earlier this week, another SVEEP campaign was organised at the Jhelum Riverfront in Srinagar.
The event, led by the District Election Officer, saw participation from students of various schools and colleges, contributing creatively to the initiative to educate voters about the electoral process.
The campaign featured a range of activities, including setting up a demo polling station where students demonstrated the voting process to the public. This hands-on approach helped people familiarise themselves with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and understand voter rights and responsibilities. Students used art, posters, and other engaging activities to capture public interest and spread the message about the importance of voting.
Speaking about the program, Hassan Sheikh, Additional District Development Commissioner, said, "As you know that voting is taking place here in September, so in connection with that, our SVEEP programs have been going on for the last month. The purpose is that all our voters should cast their vote on that day and vote for the candidate of their choice. This is the government of the common people, and they should come out and exercise their right."
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The counting will take place on October 8.
According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible electors.
In the previous Assembly elections, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12. (ANI)
