J-K: Village Defence Guard member killed after being shot by terrorists in Udhampur

A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member who sustained injuries during exchange of fire with terrorists, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 28 (ANI): A Village Defence Guard (VDG) member who sustained injuries during the exchange of fire with terrorists, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
He had got injured after fire broke out between terrorists and security forces in Chochru Gala heights, Udhampur.
The deceased VDG member was been identified as Mohammad Shareef (48) son of Abdul Rehman. He was a resident of Lower Ponar, Basantgarh in Udhampur.
The reinforcement has already reached the spot and whole area has been cordoned off, officials said.
ADG Jammu along with the Police officer of Udhampur, are monitoring the search operation.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain said that the VDG member was hit after the terrorists attacked the security forces. He said that further investigation and search operation is underway.
"We received the information about the presence of terrorists in this region, post that the entire area was activated as the information was not specific. We did the activation everywhere. When the area domination exercise began, during that course, terrorists attacked, and the retaliation was done by our party as well; our partner was martyred," the IGP told reporters.
"We have sieged the entire area and the search operation is on. This is a fresh infiltration group that has arrived in this area...Now, the entire region has been cordoned off, search is going on to trace and neutralise them. Further investigation is underway," he added.
Earlier, J-K Police said that after receiving inputs regarding the movement of suspicious individuals late last evening, the police activated the security grid in Basantgarh police station limits of Udhampur district.
"Today morning, a party of Police Picket Sang carrying along with them VDG members proceeded towards Chochru Gala Heights, where around 0745 hrs a face-off ensued between the police party and a group of hiding terrorists. One VDG member of JKP was injured in the initial exchange of fire," J-K Police said. (ANI)
