Doda (Jammu and Kashmir), April 6 (ANI): In the aftermath of tensions in Bhaderwah over an inflammatory social media post, District Magistrate (DM) Doda, Harvinder Singh, said that an FIR has been registered and proceedings against the individual have been started.
He has also appealed to the public to maintain brotherhood and communal harmony.
The post, shared by an individual on Thursday, reportedly hurt the sentiments of one community, prompting protests and a temporary shutdown in parts of the town.
"A social media post was shared by an individual on social media yesterday, where the sentiments of one of the communities got hurt. The authorities took immediate cognizance and started necessary proceedings. An FIR has been registered and proceedings against the individual have started... I request the people of Doda to maintain brotherhood...," said Harvinder Singh.
"The religious and political leaders of the region condemned the individual's action... The people who try to escalate communal disharmony must understand that the people are very sensible and that authorities will not spare anyone who tries to do such things...," the DM added.
He also acknowledged that some shops were temporarily ordered to shut down due to security concerns, leading to market closures. However, the situation has since improved.
"Now, some shops were ordered to shut down initially, due to which some markets were closed but now everything is coming back to normal... People do realise that communal harmony is above everything...," he added.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sandeep Mehta, has said that the police are keeping a close watch on social media activity following unrest in Bhaderwah over a hate post.
Authorities have lodged an FIR against the individual responsible for the inflammatory content and temporarily suspended internet services in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent the situation from worsening.
Appealing to the people of Doda to maintain peace and communal harmony, SSP Mehta said, ", "The necessary action was taken by police against the individual... It is necessary that both communities go hand in hand and avoid any actions promoting hate mongering... Avoid any post or comment that disturbs communal fabric because we have kept a close eye on the social media and any individual found doing this will be subjected to action..."
The senior police officer has been personally involved in overseeing the law and order situation, including conducting recent visits to Bhaderwah to review crime control measures and operational preparedness with local police officials. (ANI)
