New Delhi [India], January 11 (ANI): Emphasizing the Supreme Court going paperless, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Thursday that it's not just about reducing the carbon footprint but making our processes more efficient, seamless, and accountable.
"We have to take it further. I hope that we continue this movement so that we do away with paper. It is not just about reducing the carbon footprint but making our processes more efficient, seamless, and accountable and it is better to monitor various stages in the process in the Registry. So, we are continuing with our mission to make our operations completely paperless," CJI told ANI.
Further, CJI inaugurated the Consultation Room and the Arbitration Room in the Supreme Court today.
Speaking on the event, he said "I am very happy to be here with my senior colleagues who have joined us this evening to inaugurate the Consultation Room and the Arbitration Room in this block (at the Supreme Court). This is a very important facility for lawyers because when lawyers have good facilities, in terms of the infrastructure which we create you would expect that the lawyers will be better prepared, they will have dignified conditions to work and I think this is very crucial since the Bar is a vital stakeholder in our judicial process."
"This is the beginning of many such initiatives, which we are about to unveil," he asserted.
Speaking on the event, Rohit Pandey, Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association said that there was a need for consultation room for young lawyers who do not have chambers to deal with clients.
"I would like to thank him (CJI) on behalf of the Bar Association. Whenever our committee went to him with any request, he always welcomed us and solved every problem. We asked for an arbitrary room and it was given to us. Our new young lawyers are coming, arrangement for their parking, canteen, and chambers in the court premises is important," he said.

"This (Consultation room) is especially for young lawyers who do not have chambers. Whenever there is a meeting with clients at the time of the court, there is a need for an Arbitration Room and consultation room. By sitting there, they can do client dealing," he added.
Earlier in the previous year, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud announced that the top court has made the facility of free Wi-Fi available in Courts 1-5 and soon it will be enabled in bar rooms as well.
The Chief Justice also said that there will be no books or papers but it does not mean that they will not rely on books and papers at all.
The courtrooms of the top court now have a modern design due to the installation of various technology facilities including more screens and upgraded video conferencing facilities.
As part of the e-initiatives in the Supreme Court of India, the facility of free Wi-Fi is made available for Advocates, Litigants, Media persons, and other stakeholders visiting the Supreme Court of India. (ANI)
