"It’s a regular one…" Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury hits out at govt for calling Parliament's Special Session

New Delhi [India], September 17 (ANI): Labelling the upcoming Special Session of Parliament as a "regular one", Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday accused the government of depriving members of their opportunity to speak during Question Hour and Zero Hour.
The Congress MP, after the all-party meeting concluded in the national capital, said that the opposition parties do not understand the government's reason for convening an "off-season" Parliament session, beginning Monday. 
"We used to think that the special session has been called to discuss some new issues, or some miracle is going to happen (Kuch Chamatkar Hone Wala Hai). Now it seems like it is like a regular session," the Congress leader said. 
He said that this government is also depriving members, from both the Opposition and Treasury benches, of their opportunities to speak during Question Hour and Zero Hour.
"We wanted a discussion on caste census, unemployment, inflation, issues with China on the border, the Adani issue, Manipur issue, on Jammu and Kashmir and others," Chowdhury said. 
He said that all opposition parties unanimously wanted one thing, the introduction and passing of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Special Session of Parliament. 
The Special Session will be held from September 18 to 22.
The Special Session will see a discussion on Parliament’s 75-year journey, starting from the Samvidhan Sabha that first met on December 9, 1946.
A discussion on 'Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings' will be held in Parliament on the first day of the five-sitting long special session, a parliamentary bulletin said on Wednesday.
As per the Parliamentary Bulletin, apart from the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023, The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, and The Post Office Bill, 2023, are among the bills listed for the five-sitting long Special Session.
The announcement of the Special Session came as a surprise in political circles with the parties gearing up for assembly polls in five states later this year.
Earlier today, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag at the new Parliament building a day before the commencement of the Special Session of Parliament.
The Special Session, starting on Monday will see parliamentary proceedings shift from the old to the adjacent new building.
Dhankhar hoisted the flag atop "Gaja Dwar" of the new Parliament building. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present on the occasion. (ANI)
