"It was quite scary": Residents in Delhi-NCR on experiencing tremors as earthquake hits Jhajjar

Residents in the Delhi-NCR region were left frightened as an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck the Jhajjar district in Haryana on Thursday morning. The locals called it a "scary" experience.

New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): Residents in the Delhi-NCR region were left frightened as an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck the Jhajjar district in Haryana on Thursday morning. The locals called it a "scary" experience.
A resident of Jhajjar told ANI, "I was working in my office when suddenly the computer systems and fans started shaking. So, it was quite scary. We rushed out. The epicentre is in Jhajjar. So, we are anticipating an aftershock. I had never felt such an earthquake before."
Rajbala, who experienced the tremors in Jhajjar, said, "I was sitting on my terrace and cleaning something. When everything started shaking vigorously. I had never felt such an earthquake before."
A Ghaziabad resident noted that the Delhi-NCR region often experiences earthquakes, so people should be mindful and take precautions.
"I had woken up just at the time when there was a jolt. I was scared. There was another earthquake just a few days ago. Delhi-NCR experiences earthquakes quite often. So, we should be mindful of safety and precautions," he told ANI.
Another local from Ghaziabad said, "The tremors felt quite strong. I was at a shop when it hit, it felt as if someone was shaking the shop."
A man in Delhi told ANI, "I felt the tremors...It was a little scary. We should be mindful of safety when this happens."
Another Delhi resident said, "We felt the tremors. It was really scary, my vehicle shook. It was really strong."
A resident of Gurugram said that he had asked everyone to rush out of the building as they felt the jolt.
"We were sitting here and having tea when I suddenly felt strong earthquakes. I told everyone to rush out of the building. Everyone rushed out.," he said.
Another Gurugram resident told ANI, "For a few seconds, it felt like the ground shook vigorously. All of us rushed out."
Delhi Metro trains were stopped for two to three minutes as a precautionary measure during the earthquake, as per standard operating procedure (SOP). Arshad, a passenger travelling in the metro, said, "The train stopped around 9.04-9.05 am. We didn't feel (the tremor)."
According to NCS, the earthquake struck Jhajjar at 9:04 am at a depth of 10 km. Strong tremors were felt in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and adjoining areas.
"EQ of M: 4.4, On: 10/07/2025 09:04:50 IST, Lat: 28.63 N, Long: 76.68 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Jhajjar, Haryana," NCS wrote on X.
Delhi is classified as Seismic Zone IV, according to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. This zone is categorised as a "High Damage Risk Zone" and indicates a high potential for earthquakes of moderate to high intensity. (ANI)
