"It is a funny thing": Hardeep Puri on Kamal Nath's Ram Mandir statement

Kamal Nath also said in an interview with an English daily that the former Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi "got the locks opened" of the temporary Ram temple at the disputed Babri Masjid site in 1986 to allow Hindus to worship on the premises.

New Delhi [India], November 11 (ANI): Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday made light of Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Kamal Nath's remarks made in connection with the construction of Ram Mandir set to be inaugurated in January 2024.
On MP's former Chief Minister saying that BJP has "no role" in the construction of Ram Mandir, Minister Puri told ANI "Congress was in power for several years after 1947, but did not construct the Mandir."
"Now when the mandir (Ram Temple) is about to get ready, Kamal Nath is giving statements, it is a funny thing" the Minister added.
Hardeep Puri's comments came in the backdrop of Congress's Madhya Pradesh chief Kamal Nath's remark that the BJP cannot take complete credit for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Kamal Nath also said that the former Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi had "got the locks opened" of the temporary Ram temple at the disputed Babri Masjid site in 1986 to allow Hindus to worship on the premises.
"I've said whatever I had to say. Ram Mandir belongs to every person in the country," Kamal Nath told ANI recently.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday accused the Congress of opposing the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in the past and said that if Congress had wanted to build the temple, it could have built it in 1947 itself.
"The Congress could have built Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in 1947. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had wanted it, but the Congress leadership rejected it".
The remarks were made at an election rally at Khategaon in Madhya Pradesh.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government held a cabinet meeting at Ayodha and approved fourteen proposals including the construction of a temple museum in Ayodhya.
The grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya is all set to be inaugurated on January 22 next year.
Several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, will attend the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. (ANI)
