New Delhi [India], May 10 (ANI): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a milestone with the successful hot testing of a liquid rocket engine produced using Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology.
The test, which took place on May 9, 2024, lasted for an impressive 665 seconds, demonstrating the reliability and durability of this new manufacturing approach. The engine tested is the PS4 engine used in the upper stage of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
In a post on X, ISRO highlighted the breakthrough achieved with this test. The benefits of this redesign are substantial. According to ISRO, the new engine design, now a single piece, reduces raw material usage by 97% and cuts production time by 60%.
