New Delhi [India], Mar 11 (ANI): A Delhi Court on Monday allowed an application moved by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking to submit additional documents in the anticipatory bail plea filed by former finance minister P. Chidambaram in connection with INX media case.
The CBI had on March 9 moved an application in the Delhi High Court seeking to file fresh submissions to fast track the investigation for the ‘larger interest of justice’. The matter is listed before a single-bench of Justice Sunil Gaur.
The court had on January 25 reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Chidambaram in the cases lodged by both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Reserving the order, the Delhi Court had said that interim protection from arrest granted to Chidambaram will continue till the decision is passed on his anticipatory bail plea.
On January 25, the investigative agency had told the Delhi High Court that it wanted to carry out custodial interrogation of Chidambaram in the case in which the court had reserved its judgment.
Chidambaram's plea for anticipatory bail was strongly opposed by Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta who was appearing on behalf of CBI. He told the court that “the CBI wants to exercise its statutory right to investigate the case by taking him on the police remand.”
Last month, the Law Ministry had permitted the CBI to prosecute  Chidambaram in connection with the INX media case.
In 2007, the CBI had registered an FIR alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media when Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.
Chidambaram and his son Karti were named in the case involving irregularities to the tune of Rs 305 crore. (ANI)
