Int'l Yoga Day: PM Modi urges all to make yoga a part of life; CJI stresses its role in healthy lifestyle

More than 1,200 specially abled people from about 30 non-government organisations from the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana participated and performed yoga asanas on World Yoga Day.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 21 (ANI): More than 1,200 specially abled people from about 30 non-government organisations from the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana performed yoga asanas on World Yoga Day.
The 10th International Yoga Day celebrations took off in the morning after over 1,200 specially abled people arrived at the event with enthusiasm.

The NIEPID made arrangements for all the PwDs and for their escorts to perform the yogasanas comfortably. Yoga mats and T-shirts were provided to all the participants.

The 10th International Day of Yoga--Yoga for Self and Society was celebrated at NIEPID (National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) (Divyangjan), under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, at its premises located at Manovikasnagar, Bowenpally, Secunderabad.

Meanwhile, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) today, with a series of events across multiple locations, including the Kendriya Vidyalaya-NTPC campus, the Supreme Court of India, and AIIA's Goa campus.
These events witnessed active participation from dignitaries, faculty members, students, and yoga enthusiasts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the national celebrations at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, emphasising yoga's significance in nurturing physical, mental, and spiritual growth.
On the 10th International Yoga Day 2024, the Ayush Wellness Centre of AIIA at the Supreme Court conducted a Common Yoga Protocol session.
The event was graced by the Chief Justice of India, senior judges, the Director of AIIA, senior faculty members, and its scholars.
The Chief Justice of India, Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting a healthy lifestyle and spiritual enlightenment.
"We enthusiastically celebrate the International Day of Yoga like any other Indian festival. Celebrating Yoga Day highlights our commitment to our nation. It delivers a message of living an ideal life with a healthy lifestyle. Yoga is not only a part of exercise but also a journey towards spiritual enlightenment," he said.
He also talked about the 4S of yoga, which are 'Siddhanth' which means principles, 'Samanwaya' means coordination, 'Sadbhavana' means goodwill, and 'Sashaktikaran' which means empowerment."
Isha Foundation's Sadhguru Sannidhi, located near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapura district, organised a mega programme on Friday on the occasion of World Yoga Day.
Around 1,000 NCC cadets of the 5 Karnataka Battalion from 20 colleges in Chikkaballapura, 200 soldiers from the Madras Engineering Corps (MEG) of the Indian Army, 120 Jawans, and 2 officers from the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) of the Border Security Force (BSF) participated in yoga sessions led by Isha Hatha Yoga teachers.
Air Commodore SB Arunkumar VSM, Deputy Director General, Karnataka, Goa NCC Directorate, and popular Kannada actor and model Srinidhi Shetty participated as special guests at the yoga event.
Taking to his social media handle on X, Sadhguru, Founder of the Isha Foundation, said, "Yoga is a science, and, if you wish, an art form with which you can unfold your nature to its ultimate possibility and also create a conscious planet."
While speaking at the event at Sadhguru Sannidhi, Air Commodore SB Arunkumar urged all citizens, especially the future citizens of the country, to embrace yoga as a lifestyle choice. He said Yoga was not just a "physical exercise" but a "holistic practice" that rejuvenates the body and mind.
The Supreme Court of India organised a special yoga session at the Supreme Court Complex on Friday on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
The event commenced with a yoga session under the supervision of expert yoga teachers from Kaivalyadhama institute.
CJI Chandrachud, while dwelling on the importance of yoga, said that International Yoga Day is not only a day of celebration and observance and indicated that the yoga day marks the importance of yoga in maintaining a balanced style of life.
The CJI added that yoga combines both physical exercise and spirituality.
Multi-faith leaders across the country also participated in the 10th UN International Day of Yoga in Leh, Ladakh, under the banner of the Indian Minorities Foundation and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiative to take yoga to the world and make it a global phenomenon.
The leaders performed yoga in unison with the students in the serene landscape of Leh, Ladakh.
Border Security Force (BSF) jawans performed yoga on the famous 'Sam' Sand Dunes of Jaisalmer on Friday. Soldiers from the BSF's 154th Battalion also performed yoga at the posts along the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer. From senior officers to the youth, everyone practised various yoga asanas together with great enthusiasm and dedication.
The natural beauty and peaceful environment of Sam Sand Dunes made this yoga session even more special. All the participants performed yoga together, which was a unique display of unity and discipline.
Sailors onboard India's aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya also participated in an early morning yoga drill on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2024 on Friday.
Indian Army personnel also performed yoga in icy heights on the northern frontier and in Eastern Ladakh on International Yoga Day. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel performed yoga at Pangong Tso and Karzok in Leh.
ITBP personnel deployed at Muguthang Sub Sector in Muguthang Sub Sector, Sikkim, at an altitude of more than 15,000 feet were also seen performing yoga.
The ITBP personnel are deployed in far-flung areas, at heights above 18,000 feet, and the physical difficulties at such a high altitude can be overcome by practicing yoga every day.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed yoga at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar and urged people to make yoga a part of their daily lives.
"As we mark the 10th International Day of Yoga, I urge everyone to make it a part of their daily lives. Yoga fosters strength, good health, and wellness. Wonderful to join this year's programme in Srinagar," the Prime Minister posted on social media platform X.
This year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasises yoga's vital role in fostering both individual well-being and societal harmony. (ANI)
