"The temperature is rising, so to give relief to the people, we have installed green nets at some places on the road so that the people standing at the traffic signals can get some relief and at the same time, we are spraying water with our smoke guns so that a little coolness spreads on the road. The temperature is rising a lot, it is more than 45 degrees," Surana said.

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 20 (ANI): Abhishek Surana, Commissioner, Jaipur on Monday announced initiatives aimed at providing relief to residents and animals during the peak summer period known as Nautapa.
As temperatures soar past 45 degrees Celsius, Jaipur's administration has rolled out several measures to mitigate the effects of the intense heat.
"We are also installing water fountains for animals and birds inside the garden so that they can also get relief," he added.
The city has intensified its efforts to maintain air quality by spraying water in the mornings and evenings, a practice that will now continue around the clock due to the severity of the heatwave.
"Due to the extreme heat during the Kuki Nautapa or peak summer, we will continue this practice as long as the excessive heat persists. Usually, we sprinkle water both in the morning and evening. This also helps in maintaining our air quality. However, considering the heat, we have decided to continue this round the clock to provide some relief to the people," Surana said.
In a post on X, the IMD said, "Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely over many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Rajasthan, some parts of East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh on May 21, 2024."
Earlier in the day, IMD issued a severe heatwave red alert warning for the states of Punjab and Haryana and the capital, Chandigarh. The warning comes as temperatures soar across Northwest India, with IMD predicting continued heatwave to severe heatwave conditions over the next five days.
Meanwhile, IMD, in a post on X, said, "Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions most likely to continue over plains of Northwest India and Heatwave conditions over north Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat State during next 5 days."
According to IMD, severe heatwave conditions have been observed in many parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, with isolated instances in West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and north Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
The agency also warned of impending heatwave to severe heatwave conditions over many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Rajasthan. Heatwave conditions are also expected over some places in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch on May 23rd, 2024. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money.
