Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 14 (ANI): Participating in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' programme, Union Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Indore, which is known for its cleanliness, food and good governance will also be known as green city after planting 11 lakh saplings in a day under the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' started by PM Modi.
Last month, on the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' and called upon everyone, in India and across the world, to plant a tree in the coming days as a tribute to their mother.
Addressing the gathering here on Sunday, Amit Shah said, "The whole country will witness when 11 lakh saplings will be planted here in Indore. Today every person across the country will plant a tree in the name of his mother and pay respect to his mother and Mother Earth."
"I have come to Indore, a city that is known across the country for cleanliness, food, good governance and cooperation. From today onwards, Indore will also be known after the plantation of saplings in the name of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam program," he added.
The Home Minister praised the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and said people are greeting their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously.
"When PM Modi began 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, nobody knew that it would become a revolution. Now everyone is planting a sapling and greeting both their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously," Shah further stated.
He said Indore which has already become a smart city, metro city, clean city and modern education hub, will also be known as a green city.
"Indore has already become a smart city, it has also become a metro city, a clean city, a modern education hub and now Indore will be known as a green city," Shah further said.
Actor Randeep Hooda was also present at the event in Indore. The Home Minister praised his work in the recent movie 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.'
The film based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, presents a detailed biographical sketch of Savarkar from his childhood, including the key events from his life, often in a near-worshipful tone towards its central character.
Taking to social media platform X, the Home Minister said that a world record will be created in Indore after planting 11 lakh saplings in a day under the campaign.
"Today is a special day when Indore residents are going to create a world record by planting 11 lakh saplings. Under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I will also plant trees in the BSF campus of Revati Range in Indore," he posted.
"Environmental protection has been one of the biggest priorities of the Modi government and the government has made tree plantation a matter of public awareness. Also, this afternoon I will inaugurate 55 Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence in all the districts of Madhya Pradesh," Shah further stated.
Earlier in the day, Amit Shah offered prayers at the Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was also present with him.
Later in the day, Amit Shah will inaugurate 55 Excellence Colleges in 55 districts of the state.
After that, the Union Minister will reach Atal Bihari Art and Commerce College, where he will inaugurate the 55 Excellence Colleges for 55 districts in the state.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for planting 140 crore trees across the country in the name of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' on World Environment Day. Under this, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has pledged to plant 5.5 crore trees in Madhya Pradesh.
On June 5, PM Modi launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign to commemorate 'World Environment Day.' He planted a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi.
He was accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. (ANI)
