New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) protested on Thursday against the "inhumane manner" in which Indian citizens were deported from the United States and also against the "anti-youth" Union Budget.
IYC National President Uday Bhanu Chib raised concerns over the treatment of Indian citizens deported by the US, stating, "They had handcuffs on their hands and chains on their feet. This is extremely shameful. This is an insult to India and Indians on the world stage. More than 100 Indian citizens have been sent back wearing handcuffs, but as usual Narendra Modi and his government are silent on this whole matter," the IYC president said.
Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "silence" on the issue and for not ensuring that deported Indians were transported by commercial flights, Chib said the incident had "hurt the honour of India."
"When our government knew that Indians were being sent back, they should have talked to America and sent commercial planes. This incident has deeply hurt the honour of India, which cannot be tolerated at all. We are protesting against the silence of Narendra Modi and his government on this serious issue, this is an insult to every Indian and India, and the Prime Minister will have to answer on this issue," he added.
Chib also questioned why India did not send its own commercial planes for the deported citizens, as Colombia did for its nationals.
"America humiliated the youth of India and sent them back to the country, the plane of the US Army was also allowed to land in India. On one side there is Colombia, which sent its plane and called back its youth with respect. But Narendra Modi got scared, he did not have the courage to look into Trump's eyes for the youth of the country," he said.
Speaking about the Union Budget 2025, Chib called it an "anti-youth budget."
"Except for 3.2 crore people, the rest of the 140 crore people of the country have been cheated - there is nothing in this budget for employment, reducing inflation, removing economic inequality. After listening to the entire budget, it becomes clear that Narendra Modi and the BJP government are trying to woo the voters of Bihar and the middle class," the IYC President said.
During this protest, Youth Congress workers went from their office towards Parliament House under the leadership of IYC President Chib.
The protest was stopped by Delhi police after the IYC workers burnt the effigy of US President Donald Trump and PM Modi, the IYC claimed.
IYC National office bearers, Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress President Akshay Lakra, and many Youth Congress workers were also present in the protest. (ANI)
